"Are you ready to get F.I.T. now?"

You've heard it said that "no pain, no gain". This is true, isn't it? Not only for our physical fitness but also in emotional and spiritual health. Wisdom teaches us that suffering produces character, perseverance and hope of better things to come if we surrender our will to God's way and work out our faith.
I learned this the hard way ten years ago when after running the Carlsbad 5k, my beloved husband was diagnosed with terminal pacreatic cancer. He died two months later after fighting the good fight, doing what he could, but surrendering and accepting the inevitable without grumbling or complaining - the test of true character. Modern medicine did not have answers at the time and I knew that I could not raise two teenagers by myself. After asking, seeking and knocking, I finally looked up for help.
That was the begining of my journey. My mustard seed of faith was nurtured as I hungered for the truth and information to help me cope and make wise decisions. By faith my attitude and outlook changed immediatel. Instead of getting bitter, I got better. In time, I overcame depression, anxiety, and deep rooted bad habits that held me back from living the healthy and joyful life that was intended for all of us.
The principles that I learned during that heart wrenching season are everlasting and apply to my journey at Curves, too!
Taking care of our bodies is hard work, a sacrifice and it requires FAITH -- believing that we can do all things with God -- and our coaches at Curves! Physical fitness requires INFORMATION on how to properly use the equipment, how to make better food choices and how to deal with the pressures that often lead us to overeat and not take better care of ourselves. Curves provides education, fun contests and community service projects that help to transform our minds to focus on what is good and true about ourselves and others instead of dwelling on the negative or things we can't control. And finally, personal fitness requires TIME; setting reasonable goals, accepting change little by little to avoid getting overwhelmed and giving up hope. The price of seccess is eternal diligence.
I've only been at Curves a couple of months, but have lost several pounds and have quite a way to go. But the goal is progress -- not perfection. I am confident that with FAITH, INFORMATION, and TIME that I will achieve the goal set before me. I like to remember this as F.I.T.-ness.
